The Cortese grape has ancient origins and we keep on cultivating it aware and respectful for its peculiarity due to such a unique and unrepeatable terroir.
We have to thank the Ancient Romans for the selection of vines suitable for the different climatic conditions found during the rise of the Roman Empire and the Cortese is one of
these old ancient vines. The ancient Greeks taught them, after the Etruscans, the best pruning techniques so that they could obtain different types of wine.
There are four factors that make our wine so unique.
What makes our wine so special is the micro-climate of the area, where the sea breeze from Liguria meets the mountains of the Appennino and its snow. The sea gives great ventilation and the strong temperature range is perfect for wine’s quality. In this way the grape enhances its colors, perfumes and sugars.
The soil of the area is heterogeneous and varied and in this way the Cortese grape expresses different sides of its character. There are white soils made of tuff and limestone due to the marine origins of the area. Together with or aside from these are red soils made of clay and rich in minerals due to the alluvial origins of some areas, especially around San Cristoforo.
A border zone between Piedmont and Liguria, 30-40 Km far form the sea, crossed by the Lemme river, behind the Ligurian Apennines and fading towards Alessandria’s plain.
Our wineries’ history meets new technology giving strength to our ancestor’s legacy.
This white jewel, obtained the D.O.C.G. LABEL IN 1998. Gavi is one of the first Italian wine to be internationally well-known thanks to the specific “consorzio” that promotes and enhances the products and the territory.
Bright, balanced, aromatic, fruity wine. It can be still as well as sparkling. In the glass it reveals a floral bouquet, delicate scents of hawthorn, lemon, green apple, honey. It leaves an almond taste in the mouth.
